Greece joins Visa Waiver Program

By Jerry Limone

Greece has become a member of the Visa Waiver Program, enabling Greeks to travel to the U.S. for up to 90 days with just a valid passport.

Greek citizens will be able to visit the U.S. without visas in approximately 30 days, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

The country has long sought entry into the program. In a news release issued Tuesday, the DHS said it determined that Greece complies with security and information-sharing requirements for joining the program.

These requirements include timely reporting of lost and stolen passports and maintenance of high standards for counterterrorism, law enforcement, border control, aviation and document security.

Greece joins 35 other nations already participating in the Visa Waiver Program.
