The U.S. has invited travelers from the Netherlands to join Global Entry, a federal program that expedites pre-screened flyers though customs and immigration when they arrive in the U.S.
Reciprocally, pre-screened U.S. travelers can now join Privium, the Netherlands’ fast-entry program for travelers arriving in Amsterdam.
Once approved, Global Entry members can use kiosks at international airports in New York, Washington, Houston, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago and Miami to streamline the entry process. Identification is confirmed by fingerprints.
To become a member of Privium, travelers are subject to an extensive background check. Identification is confirmed by an iris scan. U.S. citizens must first become a Global Entry member before joining Privium.
It costs a U.S. traveler about $485 to become a dual member of Global Entry and Privium.
The nonrefundable application fee for Global Entry is $100, and the Netherlands application fee is about $28.43 (good for five years).
The annual dual-membership fee is about $176.11, and the basic membership fee for Privium is about $119.49 per year. The Netherlands’ 19% value-added tax (VAT) for the first year is about $61.56.
Privium membership fees are collected at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam when the applicant is interviewed.
