Aqua taking over Waikiki Joy Hotel

By Shane Nelson
Aqua Hotels & Resorts will assume management of the 91-room Waikiki Joy Hotel on Jan. 1, replacing Aston Hotels & Resorts.

Aqua officials said that a renovation in 2013 will transform the Waikiki Joy into an "urban-centered, stylish, boutique hotel."

The hotel has an open-air lobby, a sauna, a pool and a fitness center. Guestrooms have balconies and in-room refrigerators, and some have kitchenettes.

Aqua on Dec. 17 took over management of the 55-room Polynesian Plaza, located at the western edge of Waikiki. Aqua is planning a renovation there, as well.
