Couples resort on Jamaica to reopen with new name

By Gay Nagle Myers

JAM-CouplesrenderCouples Tower Isle, the former Couples Ocho Rios in Jamaica, will reopen on April 12 following a $30 million renovation of the 226-room resort.

The new name is a reference to the resort’s origins as a private island resort and a 1950s and 1960s hangout for Hollywood celebrities. The property opened in 1949 as the Tower Isle Hotel, Jamaica’s first year-round beach resort.

Renovations include the addition of four suites and 16 guest rooms with ocean views; a new dive pool; a swim-up bar at the main pool; a wedding gazebo; a spa with 10 treatment rooms, including suites for couples’ massages; a remodeled main kitchen for the resort’s three restaurants; and a floating dock at Tower Isle’s private island.

The main lobby and the resort’s historic piano bar also were redone.

Discounted, all-inclusive rack rates for a three-night booking in a deluxe garden room start at $380 per room, per night, double, through Aug. 17.
