Doubletree Merida planned for 2011

By Laura Del Rosso

Hilton Worldwide signed a multiyear management agreement with the Mexican company Consorcio Hotelero S.A. de C.V. to manage the Doubletree by Hilton, Merida.

Construction is expected to begin this month in the Yucatan capital, with completion expected in March 2011.

In a statement, Danny Hughes, Hilton Worldwide senior vice president for the Caribbean, Mexico and Latin America, said, "This agreement comes on the heels of the recent opening of Hilton Mexico City Reforma, the first managed Hilton property in the city center. Now, we announce another great milestone for Hilton Worldwide."

The 100-room hotel will be located in Merida's hotel zone and business district, 10 minutes from the Merida airport. There will be 3,000 square feet of meetings space, a restaurant, a lobby bar, a pool and a fitness center.
