Dubai's 2nd JW Marriott set for world's tallest hotel

A rendering of the JW Marriott Marquis DubaiDubai's second JW Marriott luxury hotel will be in the world's tallest hotel-only building when it opens in the fourth quarter of 2012.

The 1,608-room JW Marriott Marquis Dubai will have 72 floors and will be 1,164 feet tall, or about 85 feet shorter than New York's Empire State Building. About half of the hotel will open during its first opening phase.

The property will have 14 restaurants, bars and lounges, including the Vault lounge on the building's 71st and 72nd floors. The hotel will also have a 16,000-square-foot spa as well as a 100-foot-long pool on its seventh floor.

The JW Marriott Marquis Dubai will be about 100 feet taller than Jumeirah's sail-shaped Burj Al Arab hotel.

Marriott operates nine properties in Dubai, including the JW Marriott Hotel Dubai, which was built in 1993.
