Starwood Hotels & Resorts will reflag the Eastland Park Hotel in Portland, Maine, under its Westin brand next year after the 85-year-old landmark undergoes a $40 million renovation.
The 289-room hotel, which was acquired by New Castle Hotels & Resorts and RockBridge last year, will be renamed Westin Portland Harborview when the upgrades are completed next year. The improvements, which will include stripping some of the property down to its original brick and steel structure, will be financed in part by historical-property tax credits backed by U.S. banks.
The Eastland Park Hotel, which has Portland's only rooftop lounge, was the largest hotel north of New York when it was built in 1927.
New Castle owns or operates more than two dozen North American hotels, including the Westin Nova Scotian Hotel in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and the Hilton Hotel Downtown in Lexington, Ky.
