GoldenEye reopening pushed back a month

By Gay Nagle Myers

Island Outpost’s GoldenEye Hotel & Resort pushed back its reopening date to Nov. 12. The resort was scheduled to reopen Oct. 10.

The 52-acre property in Oracabessa on Jamaica's north coast is completing a two-year renovation that includes 11 new beach cottages and six lagoon suites, bringing the total room count to 34 cottage-style units, according to Jason Henzell, president of Island Outpost's five Jamaican properties.

"We added two new restaurants, sports and fitness activities," Henzell said. "GoldenEye is no longer an all-inclusive resort. We want our guests to go off-property and sample the restaurants, fishing markets and rum shops in the town. We support community tourism."

GoldenEye was originally built by author Ian Fleming, who created James Bond and penned all of his Bond novels there. Chris Blackwell, founder of Island Records, purchased GoldenEye in 1976.

Low-season rates will start at $560 per room per night, double with full breakfast. Winter rates will begin at $840.
