Morgans opens boutique hotel in Boston

Morgans Hotel Group on Thursday celebrated the opening of the Ames, a boutique hotel in Boston.

The 114-room hotel is a redevelopment of a Romanesque-Byzantine building that once operated as the corporate headquarters of the Ames family's tool company.

The hotel was designed by noted architect David Rockwell and is owned by Normandy Real Estate Partners, also owners of Boston's John Hancock Tower.

The design team preserved original fixtures such as the marble-and-brass staircase and the lobby mosaic. The exterior also was preserved.
