The Horseshoe Cleveland, Ohio’s first full-service casino, opened last week.
The $350 million project was developed by Rock Gaming LLC — which is headed by Dan Gilbert, owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers pro basketball franchise — and Caesars Entertainment.
Caesars is managing the casino. The property has no hotel.
Ohio in 2009 passed a bill legalizing casinos. Later this year, Penn National Gaming will open the Hollywood Casino Toledo, while the Rock Gaming-Caesars joint venture will open the Horseshoe Cincinnati next spring.
The Horseshoe Cleveland was built at the site of what was formerly a Higbee’s department store, known as the site of the Santa Claus scene in the 1983 film “A Christmas Story.”
