Orient-Express acquires Peru hotel

By Jerry Limone

Orient-Express Hotels has acquired a fifth property in Peru, Hotel Rio Sagrado in the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

The 21-suite property, which opened in April 2009, was acquired from Industrias Turistica Vagamundos for $7 million. Orient-Express also assumed debt of $2.5 million.

The hotel, set in gardens overlooking the Urubamba River, is about two miles from the town of Urubamba and a 15-minute drive from Ollantaytambo, home to the main PeruRail station stop en route to Machu Picchu. (Orient-Express owns half of PeruRail.)
