Report: Marriott to operate business hotel in Jamaica

By Gay Nagle Myers

New Kingston, the business heart of Jamaica’s capital city of Kingston, could become home to a new Marriott hotel within the next two years, according to the Jamaica Observer.

Pan Jamaican Investment Trust (Pan Jam) acquired a site in New Kingston from the Jamaican government earlier this month, reported the Observer. The site will be a mixed development to include a hotel managed and operated by Marriott, according to Pan Jam CEO Stephen Facey.

Marriott declined to confirm the report, saying, "We do not comment on rumor."

New Kingston has become a hot spot of late for hotels targeting the corporate and meetings markets. Sandals plans to open its first business hotel, the 250-room Sandals City, in late 2012 or early 2013.
