Schrager's Chicago hotel opens

By Danny King
PublicChicago-LobbyBoutique hotelier Ian Schrager opened the first hotel under his new Public brand in Chicago last week.

The hotel is located in the Gold Coast-district building that was formerly the Ambassador East Hotel, which was built in 1926.

The Ambassador East was known for its Pump Room restaurant, which hosted celebrities from Humphrey Bogart to Queen Elizabeth. The Pump Room, which retained its name, also reopened last week.

The 285-room Public Chicago has three meeting rooms totaling almost 9,000 square feet as well as a screening room and curated artwork in the hotel’s public areas.
