Westin St JohnStarwood Hotels & Resorts reached an agreement with utility company NRG Energy for a solar-panel system to be built at the 320-room Westin St. John.

The solar array will deliver 1.3 megawatts of energy and will be built and operated by NRG. The hotel will purchase energy produced by the system from NRG at a reduced rate.

Starwood and NRG also have an agreement for solar-panel systems at two other hotels that will deliver 1.7 megawatts.

The agreement is part of a broader effort for Starwood to cut its hotels’ energy use by 30% by the end of the decade.
