Expedia posts loss, but revenue climbs 12%

Expedia reported a net loss but higher revenue during the first quarter of 2012.

The online travel agency reported that revenues during the quarter increased to $816.4 million from $727.8 million during the same period of 2011.

Expedia posted a loss of $3.2 million during the quarter, compared to net earnings of $52 million during the same quarter of 2011.

The company reported that room nights grew 24%, driven by 37% growth in room nights at its Hotels.com brand.
