Caribbean company adds Exumas tours

By Gay Nagle Myers

Island Routes Caribbean Adventure Tours launched a new destination, the Exumas chain in the Out Islands of the Bahamas. The company offers 19 sea and land programs in the Exumas.

Island Routes also offers more than 130 excursions and activities in Jamaica, Antigua and St. Lucia.

The new Exumas programs range from a four-hour eco-kayak excursion in Moriah Marine Park ($150 per person) to a nine-hour 007 Thunderball day-tripper cruise ($375 per person). The cruise includes snorkeling in the Thunderball Grotto made famous by the James Bond film "Thunderball."

Land tours visit George Town in Great Exuma, the remains of an 18th-century cotton plantation and several beaches on a four-hour Bahamian bus excursion priced at $75 per person.

Other programs are fishing expeditions, picnics on a secluded island, harbor adventures, a round of golf and dive trips.

Island Routes, a Jamaica-based company that launched last June, handpicks local companies to guide excursions "that are the best of the best and capture the essence and allure of each island," according to Dominique Peterkin, general manager.

Tour desks at participating properties are manned by Island Routes specialists who guide guests through the tour-selection process.

The commissionable tours also can be booked at IslandRoutes.com.
