One out-of-this-world destination topped the bucket list of several responders, including Travel Weekly Editor in Chief Arnie Weissmann.
"Outer space is my dream destination," Weissmann said. "NASA was going to send a journalist into space back in the 1980s, and I filled out the forms, but the program was canceled after the Challenger tragedy in 1986. So, for now, I'm hoping that Richard Branson will offer a media fam when Virgin Galactic becomes a reality."
John Caldwell, president of MLT Vacations, shares Weissmann's dream.
"To see Earth from space would truly be the trip of a lifetime," Caldwell said. "Ever since I was a kid, traveling in space captured my imagination more than anything else. At that time I had no idea that hurtling through space at 2,500-plus mph would ever be possible for anyone other than the most elite astronauts."
Caldwell said he's hoping that Delta employees will get a discount aboard Virgin Galactic. (MLT markets Delta Vacations' programs.)
Senih Geray, general manager at the St. Regis Atlanta, wants to take a Virgin Galactic trip soon after the launch flight, "but perhaps not on the inaugural flight."
"A flight into outer space would offer a completely different perspective on the world and on travel," Geray said. "And I'd probably be traveling with others who like to take risks and think outside the box. This interaction, as well as the journey itself, would be inspiring."
David Holyoke, president of Travel Leaders Corporate, is hopeful that "companies like Virgin Galactic will make commercial space travel a reality in time for my 50th birthday."
