U.S. Travel Association CEO Roger Dow called for “measured, pragmatic responses” to the outbreak of swine flu in the U.S., "so as not to cause panic and negative consequences to the economy if health risks are not imminent."
Dow reiterated the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s remarks that "swine flu should not discourage people from traveling to or within the United States."
U.S. Travel, which promotes travel to the U.S., called on government officials to proceed with caution when releasing statements about the outbreak.
"Health concerns such as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and avian flu provide useful guidance as governments, opinion leaders and travelers consider the appropriate response to swine flu," Dow said.
U.S. Travel said it would work with government health officials to communicate necessary information to travelers. U.S. Travel will be updating its website with developments regarding swine flu.
