LAS VEGAS — Amadeus unveiled Travena, calling it the GDS industry’s first fully web-based booking solution.

Amadeus unveiled the new platform at ASTA’s Travel Retailing & Destination Expo, where Amadeus’ trade show booth remained busy throughout the day as travel agents inquired about the technology.

Amadeus said agents can access Travena via a Web browser from a range of devices — including PCs, laptops and tablets — and book air, hotel, rail, car rentals, cruises and tours.

Travena converts cryptic commands from the GDS into a graphical user interface, a feature that veteran GDS users will appreciate. Amadeus said the feature minimizes training time and increases booking speed and productivity.

The unveiling marked Travena’s global rollout and ongoing evolution, Amadeus said. The technology is being deployed in the U.S. and Canada later this year.

“Amadeus Travena was built for travel professionals, by travel professionals. We listened closely to what travel agents told us they needed to boost their productivity, access critical content and better compete in the marketplace,” said Scott Gutz, president and CEO of Amadeus North America.

Below is a video of Alix Arguelles, director of product management for Amadeus North America, explaining what makes Travena unique.
