ARC figures show agent sales hit record $7B in May

Travel agents in May remitted a record $7.1 billion through ARC -- the most ever for a four-week month -- as sales rose a solid 15% compared with May 2005.

International air sales totaled $2.8 billion, up 14% from last May. Similarly, domestic air sales rose 16% year-over-year, to $3.4 billion. Electronic tickets accounted for 89.14% of all tickets sold.

Although the number of accredited ARC locations dipped 5% to 21,599, Mays robust tallies helped boost the weekly sales average per agency location 21% over last May to $82,342.
