Carnival Cruise Line said it will have passengers compete in
faux singing contests in a seagoing version of the Spike TV show “Lip Sync
Battle.”
On television, the show pits a pair of celebrities who lip
sync favorite tunes.
Carnival said its version will include “elaborate props and
costumes, high-tech lighting and sound effects, and talented back-up dancers
from Carnival’s popular Playlist Productions shows,” along with a backdrop
featuring the “Lip Sync Battle” signature marquee and DJ booth.
Contestants will be picked after a preliminary scouting
gaggle on the Lido Deck. Two finalists will fine tune their performance working
with Carnival’s onboard entertainment experts to map out choreography and
select their sets, props and accessories.
The winner will be picked by an onboard audience and get a
prize. The show is set to debut on the Carnival Vista in December, and on
select Carnival ships in 2017.
Reality talent shows are increasingly popular as cruise ship
entertainment vehicles. Princess Cruises has a version of NBC’s “The Voice” on
its ships and Celebrity Cruises has “Top Chef at Sea.” Holland America Line had
a three-year partnership with ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” that ended in early
2016.
