Royal Caribbean International has canceled the first six sailings of Empress of the Seas, which is in dry dock being upgraded after its transfer from Spanish line Pullmantur.

In a message to travel agents, Royal cited the need for additional time to complete renovations.

The canceled sailings were scheduled to depart March 30, April 4, April 7, April 11, April 16 and April 21 from Miami for three-, four- and five-night voyages in the Caribbean.

Passengers have three options. They can cancel for a full refund; switch their booking to the same cabin type on  Majesty of the Seas, which does similar short cruises from Miami; or rebook on Empress after April 21. Guests who rebook will get a $100 onboard credit.
