Chef Megumi Odin, a veteran of the Hawaii vegan restaurant scene, has opened a new restaurant in Honolulu.

Vegan Hills, in the Kaimuki area of Honolulu, opened in March and is specializing in plant-based dishes and non-GMO ingredients. Menu items are mostly organic and made with local fruit and produce. The menu draws on both Asian and Western styles of cooking, and offers interesting twists on common and local dishes.

Dishes include a cobb salad made with tofu ricotta and spicy tempeh, tomato bisque, healthy nachos, a "VLT" with tempeh bacon, lettuce and tomato, and a variety of rice bowls. A majority of the menu items have gluten-free or soy-free options as well.

Odin previously helmed Peace Cafe, the first vegan restaurant in Honolulu, until she sold it in 2013. She then experimented with an Asian-inspired vegan pop-up restaurant, Satori Hawaii.
