NerdWallet released a new study on the nation's best and worst airports for summer travel last week and ranked Honolulu Airport as the best option for summer travelers.

The personal finance website examined data from 2013 to 2015 and more than 4.7 million flights, determining the U.S.'s busiest airports and then measuring delays, canceled flights, customs wait times, TSA security line wait times and the quality of restaurants according to online sites such as Yelp.

NerdWallet determined that travelers flying out of Honolulu experienced shorter average delays than the rest of the nation. And just 5% of summer flights at the airport were delayed longer than 30 minutes. Only 3% of flights had delays of more than one hour, and fewer than 1% were canceled entirely during the study period.

John Wayne Airport in Orange County, Calif., finished second in the website's Best Airport for Summer Travel ranking and the Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport was third.

Newark Liberty was the worst airport in the nation, followed by New York's LaGuardia Airport.
