American Airlines and China Southern are seeking to codeshare on 29 routes.

The airlines on Sept. 28 submitted a request to the Department of Transportation for approval of the codeshares. They have proposed an Oct. 29 start date.

American would affix its code to 14 China Southern flights from Beijing, including flights to Guangzhou, Chengdu, Xi’an and Hangzhou.

China Southern would affix its code to nine American destinations from Los Angeles, among them Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston Bush Intercontinental, Charlotte, Washington Dulles, Chicago O'Hare, Mexico City and Tucson.

China Southern would also codeshare on American flights from San Francisco to Phoenix, Philadelphia, Chicago and Dallas/Fort Worth and on American flights from Toronto to Dallas/Fort Worth and Chicago.

The carriers formed a partnership in late March, a deal in which American took a 2.9% stake in China Southern, the country's largest airline.
