Delta plans to move forward with
a rebuild of Terminals C and D at LaGuardia Airport, which it controls as a
leaseholder. The move came after the board of the Port Authority of New York
and New Jersey voted to contribute $600 million to the project.
The Terminal C and D rebuild is part of a larger $8 billion
overhaul of LaGuardia that is getting underway this summer. Once completed,
Terminals C and D will be combined into a single facility that links to a new
central hall at the airport.
Delta said its new terminal will house 37 gates on four concourses
connected by a centralized check-in lobby, security checkpoint and baggage
claim.
The terminal will have a larger Delta Sky Club than what is
currently at LaGuardia and will have wider concourses, larger gate areas, more
seating and 30% more concession space than the existing Terminals C and D.
The Port Authority’s $600 million authorization is to be coupled
with a renewal and extension of Delta’s lease on Terminals C and D that would
last through 2050. The lease is still be finalized, however, and then must go
before the Port Authority board for approval, said the office of New York Gov. Andrew
Cuomo.
Delta said it would begin construction on the $4 billion project
“as soon as possible, following regulatory approvals and final lease
negotiations.”
