The science-themed Hotel EMC2 opened in the Chicago's
Streeterville district last week. The new hotel is a member of Marriott's
Autograph Collection.
The 195-room hotel touts its celebration of "the
convergence of art and science" and features various tributes to the world's
most renowned scientists and inventors, including a quote from Leonardo da
Vinci displayed at the building's entry and a 120-seat restaurant called The
Albert (as in Einstein).
The property, whose interiors were designed by the Rockwell
Group, also features rooms with in-room gramophone-type devices that can play
music from any mobile device and almost 2,000 square feet of meeting space with
blackboard-style art installations. As part of its scientific emphasis, the
hotel will donate as much as $50,000 this year to Chicago-based Project SYNCERE
(Support Youth's Needs with Core Engineering Research Experiments).
The hotel is managed by Chicagoland's SmashHotels.
