Hotel EMC2 opens in Chicago

The science-themed Hotel EMC2 opened in the Chicago's Streeterville district last week. The new hotel is a member of Marriott's Autograph Collection.

The 195-room hotel touts its celebration of "the convergence of art and science" and features various tributes to the world's most renowned scientists and inventors, including a quote from Leonardo da Vinci displayed at the building's entry and a 120-seat restaurant called The Albert (as in Einstein).

The property, whose interiors were designed by the Rockwell Group, also features rooms with in-room gramophone-type devices that can play music from any mobile device and almost 2,000 square feet of meeting space with blackboard-style art installations. As part of its scientific emphasis, the hotel will donate as much as $50,000 this year to Chicago-based Project SYNCERE (Support Youth's Needs with Core Engineering Research Experiments).

The hotel is managed by Chicagoland's SmashHotels.
