Cyber Monday was a day of big hotel discounts in Las Vegas,
where tourism has slumped since the Oct. 1 shooting that killed 58 near the
Mandalay Bay Resort.
MGM Resorts International is offering rates at Circus Circus
starting at $19 for stays starting Monday through Thursday nights, while Excalibur
and Luxor hotels are quoting mid-week rates starting at $21 and $27 a night,
respectively. All of those rates are less than the $30 daily resort fee
charged at those hotels. MGM's Mandalay Bay is offering rooms for as little as $47 a
night.
The rates are part of a Cyber Monday promotion that includes
discounts on rooms for stays through next November at Excalibur and Luxor and
through next September at Circus Circus.
MGM Resorts also did Cyber Monday promotions for
high-end properties. Rates at the Bellagio start at $133, and while
Aria's rates start at $332 for Monday, they fall to $149 this weekend.
MGM isn't alone. Caesars Entertainment on Monday was
offering up to 40% discounts at most of its Strip properties for stays through
Dec. 14. Rates at the Rio All Sites Hotel & Casino start at $27, while
Bally's Las Vegas is selling rooms for as low as $47 a night.
High-end Las Vegas hotel operators Las Vegas Sands
and Wynn Resorts also were offering promotions on their websites. Wynn's Cyber
Monday specials, which are good for stays through the end of 2018, included
discounts up to 28% on rooms at the Wynn Las Vegas, where rates were as
low as $144 a night.
Las Vegas Sands earlier this month started offering
discounts as high as 25% on stays through Jan. 14 at the Venetian.
