Pod Hotels, the New York-based
mini-room specialist, is slated to expand to Los Angeles in 2019 with the
redevelopment of downtown Los Angeles' old Hotel Cecil site.
The property, which opened in the
1920s as the Hotel Cecil and evolved into a single-room occupancy residential
property, has most currently been branded as Stay on Main. Under Pod, the hotel
will have about 340 rooms, according to Pod Hotels managing director David
Bernstein.
Pod's typical rooms are about
120 square feet. The hotels feature modernist design and amenities such as free
WiFi, on-site restaurants and rooftop bars. The brand debuted in Manhattan in 2007, and
has since added a second Manhattan property and a hotel in Washington,
D.C.
The company is slated to open a Brooklyn hotel and a hotel on Manhattan's 42nd Street next month.
