What's New, What's Hot: January 2018

|

Our National Parks Commuter Mugs: Made available by Rosanna Imports of Seattle, these attractive and practical porcelain hot and cold mugs are designed to honor seven U.S. national parks: Crater Lake, Grand Canyon, Mt. Rainier, Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone, Yosemite and Zion. Each 12-ounce mug sports its own design and would make a unique memento of a park visit while keeping your morning cup of coffee just the way you like it. The fully insulated double wall mugs, which come with a silicone lid, are microwave and dishwasher safe. One subjective note: They really look great. $22 each; www.rosannainc.com.

Chipolo Card: Described by Chipolo as "the thinnest tracker on the market," this slim wallet finder (0.08-inch) is smaller than a business card or credit card and will easily fit into a card slot in your wallet or passport holder. Connected to a smartphone app via a Bluetooth connection, the Chipolo Card will alert you to its location from up to 200 feet away with a 95 decibel melody. If you misplace your wallet while out of Bluetooth range, the app enables the user to pinpoint its last location on a map. Another app option, if necessary, allows you to mark the wallet as stolen, hopefully enlisting whoever else is running the app in a search for it. One caveat: As a function of its thinness, the card's battery is not replaceable, but Chipolo will replace the card at 50% of its cost when the power runs out (it is supposed to last about a year). $35; https://chipolo.net/.

Blunt Force Cannabis Stash Tubes: These sleek tubes are designed to keep a traveler's hand-rolled legal medical marijuana secure and fresh ... and away from prying eyes (and/or noses). The tubes, which are airtight, emit no odor when capped and, hence, the stash is virtually undetectable. The Blunt Force tubes, which are discrete enough to easily slip into a pocket or purse, are crush proof and waterproof. They are available in plastic and aluminum. Multi-packs, $4 to $5; https://bluntforcetube.com/.

Revolar Personal Safety Alert: This personalized alert system can send notices of your varying degrees of unease (or simple check-ins) to a list of contacts of your choice (and their agreement to be contacted). While this is not a typical 911 alerter, the Revolar does put you in contact with those you trust and with whom you choose to leave specific instructions about what to do in the event of trouble. The Revolar wearable alarm is not a panic button to be sure, but it does provide a quick way to send for help, track your steps and share your GPS location. Powered by a CR 2032 battery, the Revolar can contact up to five appointed contacts per alert: 1 click, check in; 2 clicks, I'm worried, call or find me; 3 clicks, emergency alert, I need help right now. $79.99; https://revolar.com.

Hand-stitched and made from 15-ounce canvas, the Portfolio features an integrated internal water bottle holder, 1.5-inch cotton web shoulder strap, and two front snap-closure pockets and a rear pocket.
