There is nothing like a train

Traveling between Strasbourg and Amsterdam for some post-congress down time was a decision made by budget considerations. It is ridiculously expensive to fly within Europe.

To reward myself for being frugal with the company buck, however, I shelled out the extra $11 for first class. What a great move.

The seven-hour trip between the two canal cities was a mini-vacation. Some light reading in a comfortable, roomy seat; a leisurely dinner served in decent china on starched white cloths; a short nap and I arrived at Central Station in Amsterdam.

I only hope the new Acela is this good.
