ISLAND AIR is now code sharing with United Airlines. The agreement means that passengers booked to the islands through United will not have to recheck in for interisland flights on Island Air, which operates flights to and from Honolulu, Kapalua, Kahului, Hilo, Kona, Lihue, Lanai City and Molokai.

THE TURTLE BAY RESORT on Oahu's North Shore announced that a new restaurant is scheduled to open on Dec. 1. The 125-seat Ola will be located where the Sand Bar is. Chef Fred DeAngelo said he aims to use as much fresh products grown or caught within one mile of the resort as possible. DeAngelo also plans to hire a sommelier to create a wine list that will pair well with his menu. DeAngelo was most recently the executive chef at Tiki's Grill & Bar in the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel.

THE KAANAPALI BEACH HOTEL launched a Kaanapali Whale Encounter package to mark the arrival of humpback whales that migrate past Maui during the winter. Starting at $1,422 per couple, the five-night package includes accommodations in a partial oceanview room, compact car rental with unlimited mileage, daily breakfast, a whale-watching cruise with guaranteed sightings, admission to the Maui Ocean Center, tickets to the Kupanaha dinner show, a lunch bag with disposable camera and two bottles of water per day. Additional family members can be added for $25 per night for accommodations, plus the cost of activities and meals. The package is available Jan. 1 to April 30.

THE RITZ-CARLTON, KAPALUA will hold its annual holiday tree lighting ceremony on Dec. 1 at 5:30 p.m. on the Terrace Lawn. Present at the event will be Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus and a bevy of elves. Local musicians will perform an outdoor concert leading up to the arrival of Santa. The resort will use 2.5 miles of lights strung on the trees throughout the resort. THE NAPILI KAI BEACH RESORT in West Maui is offering an amateur rate on accommodations during the 2006 Mercedes Championships, the kickoff event for the PGA Tours season. Starting at $195 per night for an oceanview studio unit (regularly priced at $285 per night), the offer is valid for stays between Jan. 3 and Jan. 9, with a two-night minimum. The Mercedes Championships begin with a pro-am tournament on Jan. 4, and continues Jan. 5 to 8 at Kapalua's Plantation Golf Course. Call (808) 669-6271.
