Travel Weekly's Home-based Agent E-letter: March 31, 2008

CENTRAL HOLIDAYS, based in Moonachie, N.J., produced a DVD designed to be a sales tool for retailers. Focusing on the wholesaler’s Italy products, the disc features sample itineraries, guest testimonials, information on tour directors and information on dining and accommodations options. Agents should register at http://agents.centralholidays.com/ta_login/index.html with their IATA, ARC or CLIA number.

VACATION.COM is taking steps to make sure each of its agency members is using the EZguider sales platform, which was rolled out in December. The network said it will begin providing on-site training to members and incentives to agents to use the booking tool. A review of the platform was on the agenda at a recent meeting of the Vacation.com Advisory Board, which includes executives from host and franchise operations such as Travel Planners International. The advisory board also learned that half of Vacation.com agencies use its Engagement direct-marketing tool, which ultimately reaches some 6 million U.S. households. Additionally, the board was briefed on membership figures. In 2007, the Vacation.com sales team recruited some 200 new agencies.

OSSN, the Outside Sales Support Network, is set to launch its new Los Angeles chapter in high style, at the famous Cicada Club in downtown Los Angeles on April 8. Paula Mitchell Manning, a former theatrical producer and playwright who now co-owns two home-based travel agencies, will serve as the group’s first director. OSSN said the launch party will feature Anita Pagliasso, the network’s western regional manager and author of the book "How I Made a Small Fortune as a Home-Based Travel Agent," discussing strategies for building a successful home-based travel business. Advance registration to attend is required by contacting the chapter at (323) 481-0666 or [email protected].
