Travel Weekly's Home-based Agent E-letter: Sept. 18, 2006

VACATION.COM will roll out its Knowledge is Power training tour in six cities this fall. The program incorporates scenario-based training, led by Vacation.com training specialists. Admission is free to Vacation.com members. The schedule is as follows: Tampa, Sept.19, Sheraton River Walk; Orlando, Sept. 21, Marriott Orlando Airport; Boston, Oct. 5, Hilton Boston Back Bay; San Diego, Nov. 7, Doubletree Hotel San Diego Del Mar; Seattle, Nov. 8, Embassy Suites -- Bellevue; and Denver, Nov. 9, Doubletree Downtown Denver. More details are at www.agentnet.com.

MEMBERSHIP in the National Association of Commissioned Travel Agents doubled in the last year to a total of 4,000 individual travel sellers, according to Joanie Ogg, the organization's president. The significantly larger NACTA also will expand the reach of its annual national meeting, formerly the NACTA Conference. It will be renamed the Home-Based Agent Summit, open to all home-based agents, Ogg said. The event is set for Nov. 29 in Ft. Lauderdale.

WHILE AT ASTA'S THETRADESHOW in Orlando, NACTA also rolled out an updated Web site, including full redesign to the subsets of the main site, such as the site for host agencies, a site for supplier members and another members-only component. Ogg said the NACTA sites are now easier to navigate besides being more attractive. Also, she said NACTA will launch a Cruise Academy@Sea in 2007, which replaces seminars at sea that were less structured.

DATEBOOK: OSSN Orlando will sponsor a chapter meeting Sept. 27 featuring a Barbados Dinner Seminar. The free event runs from 6 to 9 p.m. and will be held at the Orlando Marriott Downtown. RSVP to [email protected].
