Travel Weeklys Cruise E-letter: Aug. 8, 2006

THE CARNIVAL FASCINATION will go into drydock in September for 35 days of extensive renovations, Carnival Cruise Lines said. The 2,052-passenger ships multi-million-dollar refit will include putting a nine-hole miniature golf course on the Sun Deck; adding a Cafe on the Way patisserie and coffee shop on the ships Promenade Deck; and enhancing the childrens program with a 1,600 square-foot Childrens World play area. The ships spa will be renovated with new treatment rooms and updated exercise equipment, and all staterooms and suites will get flat-screen TVs and new decor. A new art gallery, an atrium bar and a redesigned Internet cafe are included in the plans.

TAUCK WORLD DISCOVERY launched a Black Sea cruise itinerary, the first in the lines 81-year history. Called Istanbul and the Black Sea, the 11-night trip includes seven days on the 90-passenger Le Levant and four nights in Istanbul, Turkey, at the Ceylan InterContinental hotel. The Le Levant calls at ports in Bulgaria, Romania, the Ukraine and Turkey. The trip costs $5,990 per person and will depart in July and August, 2007.

EASYCRUISE announced a new Caribbean itinerary that will include the islands of St. Maarten, St. Barts, Anguilla, St. Kitts/Nevis and Antigua. The sailings start Dec. 8 on the ship EasyCruiseOne and are priced at $17 per person, per day. The ship will spend three weeks being renovated before it heads to the Caribbean; it will be refitted with a new cafe, bar and restaurant, and windows will be added to nearly sixty cabins.

WINDSTAR CRUISES will return to Costa Rica this winter, offering seven-day cruises along the countrys Pacific coast on the 148-passenger Wind Star. There will be fifteen roundtrip sailings out of Puerto Caldera, Costa Rica, and the ship goes to one stop outside of Costa Rica, in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua. In most ports of call, the Wind Star will anchor and passengers will be tendered to shore. The vessel sails in Costa Rica from December to March. Fares start at $1,749 per person.
