Hurricane Irene pounded the Turks and Caicos early Wednesday and the southeastern islands of the Bahamas on its march north up the island chain toward Nassau and Freeport and eventually the U.S. East coast.
"We have gotten some reports of damage," said Gayle Outten-Moncur, with the Bahmas' National Emergency Management Agency.
Irene is expected to hit Nassau during the day on Thursday and Grand Bahama Thursday night, according to the National Hurricane Center.
Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos had more rain and wind damage than Grand Turk, which is lesser populated.
However, the Ocean Club in Providenciales reported that all guests are safe and the resort had only minor cosmetic damage to the roof and buildings. The resort will be ready to welcome guests again on Aug. 27.
Provo's airport is scheduled to reopen on Thursday afternoon.
