David Roper, a longtime member of Sandals Resorts International's leadership team, died on April 24 after a long illness.

David Roper
Roper already had had five years of Caribbean tourism experience under his belt when he joined Sandals Resorts in 1986 as general manager of Sandals Royal Caribbean.
At the time of his death, he held the post of director of industry relations.
"I do not remember a time when I did not know and love David Roper," said Adam Stewart, executive chairman. "He was a fun and natural force for good. While he had an encyclopedic memory of the history of the company, David was never confined to the past and was one of the most innovative and capable leaders.
"It was with travel advisors that he truly shined. To take him on the road was to be in the presence of a rock star who was the energy connecting agents, the resorts and the brand," Stewart said.
Roper played an integral role in strengthening Sandals Resorts International sales and industry relations division, forging key relationships with regional industry partners, stakeholders and international partners across the globe.
He is survived by his wife Donna, their children and brother Brian Roper, general manager of Beaches Ocho Rios.
