Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has broken ground on a two-ship pier at private island Great Stirrup Cay.
NCLH expects the $150 million pier will improve cruise ship access to the Bahamian private destination for all three of its lines: Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises. Guests currently must board a tender boat to visit the private destination.
NCLH expects the pier to be completed in this year's fourth quarter.
Private destinations are an important and popular feature of cruise line itineraries. Royal Caribbean Group and Carnival Corp. are investing in new private destinations in the Caribbean.
NCLH describes the pier project as a key component of its "Charting the Course" strategy, which targets product investments that guests value and are high-growth opportunities.
