Oceania Cruises is bringing in Canyon Ranch to design and operate the spas onboard all its vessels, including its first newbuild, Marina, scheduled to debut in late 2010.
The decision marks the end of Oceania's five-year partnership with Steiner Leisure's Mandara Spa this August.
The new spas, and other Canyon Ranch features, will debut on Oceania's current ships, the Regatta, Insignia and Nautica, by Sept. 1.
Bob Binder, Oceania's president, said the cruise line always got high marks from passengers with the Mandara spas, but Oceania is interested in the "realm of possibilities" a new partner offers.
"It's not just the spa element per se, it's an entire lifestyle element that we can introduce across the fleet, one that melds seamlessly with our brand elements," Binder said. "Canyon Ranch's demographics match favorably with ours."
The new facilities will have 16 massage, body and skin-care treatment rooms; a gym and weight room with more than 50 pieces of cardio and weight-training equipment; a juice bar; men's and women's locker rooms; a thalassotherapy pool; two whirlpools; and a thermal suite.
In addition, Oceania's main dining room and Lido cafe will have Canyon Ranch's Spa Cuisine items on their menus.
"The most exciting element of our partnership with Canyon Ranch is that it goes beyond spa treatments," Binder said. "They are famed for their spa cuisine, and they have phenomenal lifestyle experts and instructors and nutrition counselors in addition to their spa and fitness team."
Canyon Ranch broke into cruise ship spa operations on Cunard Line's Queen Mary 2 in 2004, a five-year partnership that was recently extended.
The vast majority of cruise ship spas are run by Steiner Leisure, which operates onboard 125 ships for 16 cruise lines.
