SEATTLE -- Princess Tours added a second escorted land-tour program
to its itinerary this year, along with a value-priced land package
in the Canadian Rockies.
The 11-day Circle of Gold program makes its way by cruise, rail and
coach into the heart of the state.
Traveling roundtrip from Anchorage, the Circle of Gold tour
stops at Valdez and Tok, then hops into the Yukon Territory for two
nights of recreation in Dawson City.
The tour reenters Alaska's interior at Fairbanks, where guests
explore El Dorado Gold Mine before embarking on a day cruise on the
Chena and Tanana rivers on board the paddleboat Discovery.
Accommodations at the Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge, travel
aboard Princess' Midnight Sun Express between Fairbanks and
Anchorage, meals on most days and the guidance of a tour director
comprise the balance of the package's offerings.
Prices range from $2,399 per person, double, to $2,499,
depending on the time of travel. The tour operates from May 27 to
Sept. 2.
Princess introduced its first guided Alaska land tour last
summer, the seven-day Highlights of Alaska program, to run
concurrently with its five-day nonescorted Alaska land programs and
its Canadian Rockies tours.
The Highlights of Alaska itinerary runs from May 18 to Sept. 14
and includes Anchorage, Denali and Fairbanks, with accommodations
at the Mount McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge. Costs range from
$1,499 to $1,649.
Besides these products, Princess offers its traditional schedule
of nonescorted Alaska land programs, which includes stays at one or
more of Princess' custom-built, riverside lodges and travel aboard
the Midnight Sun Express.
Each property offers visitors a variety of activities, from
horseback riding to flightseeing to river rafting.
Princess' new Canadian Rockies offering, the Royal Rockies
Explorer, features many of the same scenic destinations as the
line's other escorted tours but with more moderately priced
accommodations, which result in per person rates of $799, May and
September, and $849, June through August. Prices are based on
double occupancy.
The Princess Canadian Rockies 2000 program features five
escorted land-only itineraries, ranging from five to 11 days.
Each tour visits some of the top attractions in the area.
Itineraries run roundtrip from Seattle, or one way between Calgary,
Alberta, and Vancouver. In addition to Lake Louise and Jasper in
Alberta, stops include Banff, Alberta, and Kamloops, British
Columbia. Canadian Rockies land tours run between May 4 and Sept.
