Silversea Cruises named its newly acquired expedition ship, the Prince Albert II, in Monte Carlo's harbor on Tuesday.

The ship was named during a ceremony attended by the vessel's namesake, Prince Albert II of Monaco, who cut a ribbon to officially enter the first expedition ship into Silversea's fleet.

The Prince Albert II will embark on its first cruise on June 12 from London, on its inaugural season sailing in the Arctic Circle, Svalbard, Iceland and Greenland for the summer.

The vessel, which formerly sailed as Society Expeditions' World Discoverer, will reposition to South America and Antarctica for fall and winter voyages.

The Prince Albert II recently underwent a multimillion dollar renovation, giving it 20 premium suites of 350 to 675 square feet and double private French balconies or large private verandas. All 66 oceanview accommodations have marble bathrooms with bathtubs, Silversea said.
