PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. -When Dolly's Splash Country closes on Labor
Day, the water park will embark on a $1.5 million expansion.
Citing the success of the park since its opening in 2001, "we
knew it was time to give [families] more to shout about," said park
owner Dolly Parton in a statement regarding Raintree Hollow, the
proposed two-acre addition to the park.
This season, Splash Country added infrastructure improvements,
such as Safe Tzone, a guest-locating wristband service.
With that program in place, the expansion of the park's
children's area and improvement of family facilities was a logical
next step, according to a park spokesman.
Raintree Hollow, which will be located between the existing
Raging River Rapids and Mountain Scream slides, will extend the
park's mountain and forest theme by providing "an extended area for
kids to play and a shaded area for parents to sit and observe their
children," the spokesman said.
Included within Raintree Hollow will be Soaker Springs, an
interactive attraction geared for children from toddlers to
preteens, the spokesman said.
Mountain Twist, a three-slide complex, will be featured atop
Raintree Hollow and will consist of a single-person mat slide with
twists and turns and a 42-foot drop. The spokesman rated Mountain
Twist as "aggressive, but not quite high thrill."
It is designed for the guest who is "a little more adventurous
but not quite ready for a ride as aggressive as our Mountain
Scream," said Gene Scherrer, director of operations.
Admission to Raintree Hollow will be included in the price of
all Splash Country tickets. Prices this year are $27.90 for adults
ages 12 to 59; $22.30 for children ages 4 to 11 and seniors.
Tickets also are available for three days of unlimited admission
to Dolly's Splash Country and Dollywood. Rates for the Splash N
Play tickets are $59.10 for adults; $43.50 for kids; and $49.10 for
Construction on Raintree Hollow should be completed in time for
the May 17 opening for the 2003 season, the spokesman said.
