HOPE TOWN, Bahamas -- For visitors interested in seeing how and
where Abaconians live, island hopping is the way to go.
Froggies Out Island Adventures, a tour operator in Hope Town on
Elbow Cay in the Abacos, offers a selection of tours.
All begin at Froggies Dive Shop, near the public docks in Hope
Town.
For visitors staying in Marsh Harbour, there is a 20-minute
ferry ride to Hope Town for the tours. The roundtrip cost of the
ride is $12 for adults and $6 for children.
Most tours depart at 10 a.m. and return at 4 p.m.
Here is a rundown:
The Hope Town/Man-O-War Adventure features snorkeling at Fowl
Cay Government Preserve, an underwater marine park on the north
side of Man-O-War Cay.The tour also visits Man-O-War and Hope Town with lunch and
entrance to the lighthouse included.
Price: $45 per person.
The Green Turtle Cay Adventure spends the day in Green Turtle
Cay, about 15 nautical miles from Elbow Cay, or a 45-minute boat
ride.The tour includes lunch and a visit to the Albert Lowe
Historical Museum, showcasing the history of the Abacos and its
seafaring life.
Also included is snorkeling near a reef at the north end of
Great Guana Cay.
Price: $45 per person; drinks and lunch additional.
Lunch and drinks at Pete's Pub and Grill in Little Harbour
highlight the Little Harbour Adventure, which also includes a visit
to Johnston's Gallery and Foundry.The tour sails on the Sea of Abaco to Little Harbour with
snorkeling at Sandy Cay Underwater Park on the way.
Price: $45 per person; drinks and lunch additional.
Half-day snorkeling and diving excursions include instruction
and equipment. The trips visit the underwater parks and reefs
around the Sea of Abaco.The Intro to Scuba plan features pool lessons followed by an
open-water dive.This excursion is offered by appointment only and includes use
of gear and instruction.
Dive trips range from $50 to $120; snorkel trips are $35. Rates
for those not diving or snorkeling are $20.
