SANTA FE, N.M. -- The Inn on the Alameda is carving out a place for
itself in this thriving arts community.
The 69-room property now features its own poet-in-residence.
Gary Mex Glazner, a local poet, hosts monthly Fireside Readings
in the inn's Agoyo Room.
"We wanted to distinguish ourselves from the pack," said Judith
Moir, marketing manager.
The inn also managed to accomplish this with its Pillow Poems,
which also are composed by Glazner.
The small scrolled poems are placed on guests' pillows at the
end of each day.
Moir said the hotel wanted to do something different for its
guests instead of chocolates on their pillows.
The Inn on the Alameda attracts a sophisticated, well-traveled
type of client who is interested in the arts, according to Moir and
the inn's new general manager Debbie Allmann.
Allmann joined the inn July 17.
She said guest satisfaction is an integral part of the Inn on
the Alameda experience.
Allmann cited remembering a guest's preference, such as if they
want a feather pillow or a bottle of water for their room, as one
aspect of the service.
She said her staff tunes into these requests and makes sure
guests don't have to ask for them a second time.
"The attention to detail really makes the guest feel special,"
she said.
The inn's clientele is mostly couples who range in age from the
early 40s to late 50s.
The Inn on the Alameda also stands out from the crowd because it
does not have its own restaurant.
Continental breakfast, which is included in the room rate, is
served either in the Agoyo Room, in the gardens or in the guest's
room.
The inn is located in downtown Santa Fe within walking distance
of many restaurants.
Allmann said the staff can assist guests with dining out.
"The front desk can show them the menu for restaurants in the
area, tell them where locals like to go and make reservations for
them," the general manager said.
Rates for high season, which runs from May 1 though Oct. 31,
range from $197 to $347.
During the off-season, rates range from $147 to $297.
