COCONUT GROVE, Fla. -- The Mayfair House here is seeking to
increase its share of agent business, which accounts for 15% of its
total volume, according to Amaury Piedra, general manager.
From July 3 to 14, the commission to agents will be 15% on all
room sales and the room portion of package sales. At other times,
10% pay applies.
Lodgian Inc., Atlanta, owns the 179-suite property.
Piedra noted that 40% of the hotel's guests are there for
corporate meetings and incentive trips; the rest of the mix
consists of individual corporate and leisure travelers.
The hotel has a rooftop reception area with a pool, Jacuzzi and
lounge; a beauty salon; spa services, and 24-hour concierge and
room services.
In other news, the Preferred Hotels member property enhanced its
Web site, providing 12 sections, including a reservations option
where rooms and packages can be booked.
According to Piedra, any suite and package rates shown can be
booked by agents.
A client who views the Web site can take a virtual tour of the
property, its rooms and dining and meetings facilities.
Rates this year are the same as 1999, Piedra noted. Rates
through September at the all-suites property are from $169 to $649
per night; in October, the minimum becomes $249.
The top rate is for the presidential suite, and it applies
year-round. All suites are individually designed.
Piedra said the Mayfair House, which holds four Mobil stars and
four AAA diamonds, is the only Preferred Hotels member in the Miami
area.
He credits its success in part to its low staff turnover. Some
present employees joined the property when it opened in 1985, he
said.
To help agents generate more business, there are three in-house
packages they can sell through Sept. 30. Highlights follow:
Honeymoon, one night, from $219 per couple for a regular suite;
$249 for a deluxe, and $299 for the Venetian Suite.Included are a bottle of champagne; chocolate-covered
strawberries, and a full breakfast served in the Mayfair Grill or
delivered to the suite.
Romance in the Grove, also one night, is $239 per couple,
covering a suite, dinner and a bottle of wine in the Mayfair Grill,
tickets to the Improv Comedy Club and champagne in the hotel's
Orchids Cham-pagne and Wine Bar.Suite Dreams, $179 per couple, featuring a suite, admission to
the Improv Comedy Club, champagne and a continental breakfast.Suites assigned in the packages have a king-size bed, a sitting

The Mayfair Grill is decorated with various works of art and
