PORTLAND, Maine -- Resort Sports Network, an Internet information
source for mountain sports, based here, acquired Moguls Ski and
Snowboard Tours, a ski and snowboard tour operator in Boulder,
Colo. The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Moguls specializes in FITs to winter sports destinations
throughout the western U.S. and Canada. The acquisition will result
in a new RSN Travel division, directed by Moguls' management
staff.
An expanded Web site is being designed to offer consumers trip
planning and on-line booking for a variety of winter sports package
components, such as air fare, accommodations, car rentals, ski
instructional programs and day care.
Although travel agents will be able to use the site for
research, it is not yet clear if they will be able to book on
line.
Moguls will continue to offer a telephone reservations center
offering fully commissionable packages to agents, according to
Sarah Pitcher, Moguls' director of marketing.
The company also will continue to work with agents to help them
become more proficient in booking winter sports packages, Pitcher
said.
"We remain committed to the agency community, but the
acquisition by RSN is fairly new, and we are still looking at what
sort of opportunities will develop for both companies," she
said.
