Travelers to either coast who are television fans have plenty of
opportunities to visit the exteriors of some of the most famous
television homes. Some of the small screen's notable addresses are:
California
* The "Melrose Place" apartment building actually is located
five miles away from its namesake -- on Greenwood Place -- in Los
Angeles. And the infamous swimming pool in the courtyard was never
really there; it was shot on a sound stage.
* Brandon and Brenda Walsh's house in "Beverly Hills, 90210"
actually is an hour away from Beverly Hills in Altadena, Calif. --
ZIP code 91001.
* Ozzy Osborne wasn't the first Ozzie to use his real home for a
television show. The exterior of Ozzie and Harriet Nelson's house,
filmed for their show, "The Nelsons," is located on Camino Palermo
Drive in Los Angeles.
* The mountains of Malibu Creek State Park doubled as 1950s
war-torn Korea for "M*A*S*H." Fans must hike 2.5 miles from the
park's entrance to the filming location to see rusted vehicles and
the site of the helicopter landing pad.
New York
The "Friends" apartment building is located at 90 Bedford St. in
Greenwich Village.
* The Bunker household on "All in the Family" is at 8970 Cooper
Ave. in Queens.
* Upper Manhattan is the home of Tom's Restaurant, renamed
"Monk's Restaurant," where the "Seinfeld" gang hung out. It is on
112th Street and Broadway (table No. 7).
* On "The Honeymooners," the Kramdens lived at 328 Chauncey St.
in Brooklyn -- the exact address at which actor Jackie Gleason, who
played Ralph, grew up.
