BASSETERRE, St. Kitts --- A second cruise pier is scheduled for Port Zante in St. Lucia, according to Dwyer Astaphan, minister of tourism.

The current pier can handle up to two mega ships at one time; the second pier, with construction scheduled to in mid-2004, also will be large enough to handle two of the big cruise ships, Astaphan said.

Astaphan also announced that Universal Airlines, a small scheduled carrier based in New York with 767 service from JFK to Trinidad and Guyana, will begin year-round Saturday nonstop service to St. Kitts on June 24.

Introductory fares will be $450 round trip; packages will be available through several operators, including Alken Tours and Gogo Worldwide Vacations, Astaphan said.

Commissions will range from $25 to $35 per booking.
