Rates & Dates: Colorado, Wyoming resorts join tsunami relief effort

Destination Hotels & Resorts Mountain Collection, a group of eight properties in Aspen, Snowmass, Telluride and Vail, Colo., and Jackson Hole, Wyo., created the Book for Tsunami Relief program, whereby 3% of the proceeds of all new reservations made by April 17 for travel through Dec. 1 will be donated to Unicef.

The standard 10% commission will remain intact during this time. In order to support the initiative, travel agents must book the reservation online.

Following repairs necessitated by the devastating 2004 hurricane season, the Sanibel Island, Fla., resorts in Sanibels Signature Collection -- Sundial Beach & Golf Resort, Sanibel Inn, Song of the Sea and Sanibels Seaside Inn, are reopening and are offering Welcome Back rates.

Partially reopened, the Sundial Beach & Golf Resort is offering a rate of $259 per night on condominium accommodations, valid through March 17. The complete reopening of the resort is slated for May 1.

Meanwhile, the remaining resorts will reopen on March 8 with Welcome Back rates valid through April 30. At the Sanibel Inn, rates are from $315 per night; at the Seaside Inn, rates are from $299 per night; and at the Song of the Sea, rates are from $329 per night.

Tenaya Lodge at Yosemite in Yosemite National Park, Calif., is offering 15% commission on stays through March 31.

The 15% commission also applies to stays from September through March 2006.

Similarly, Litchfield Plantation in Pawleys Island, S.C., a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, increased its commission to 12% through 2005.

The 600-acre, gated estate, a former rice plantation, features 32 guest rooms, a restaurant, a private marina and meetings facilities.

Torontos Old Mill Inn & Spa is hosting A Hard Days Murder a murder-mystery weekend plan on April 2 and 3. Clients visiting the inn that weekend will be sent a dossier prior to the event so that their secret lives can be entwined into the plot. The event begins at 10:30 a.m. on April 2.

Pricing starts at about $244 for the murder-mystery activities, which include a welcome reception, two lunches, one dinner and dancing. Overnight accommodations in a king room start at about $162, double.

French Wine Explorers created an itinerary retracing World War IIs history in France by visiting the countrys wine regions.

The eight-night Wine & War tour teams with authors Don and Petie Kladstrup, writers of a book of the same name, as clients meet with chateau owners in Champagne, Burgundy, the Loire Valley and Bordeaux who fought the Nazis. Chateau owners relate their experiences during WWII and offer the group a tour and tasting.

The French Poodle plan covers overnight accommodations, Pink Poodletinis for two and continental breakfast at the hotels restaurant, Juniper.

Also covered are tickets for two to the Phillips Collection, which is showing Modigliani: Beyond the Myth through May 29. The exhibit is a collection of works by Amadeo Modigliani, an Italian artist who spent many years living in Paris.
