San Antonio begins ad effort

SAN ANTONIO -- The San Antonio Office of Cultural Affairs plans to launch a "Beyond the Alamo" promotion in January.

The office said the program is designed to raise awareness of cultural tourism in San Antonio and will reach potential tourists through television and print ads in magazines.

The promotion will be featured in Art & Travel, Smithsonian, Art News and National Geographic.

The cultural affairs office also plans to target consumers via direct mailings sent to community cultural arts centers, museums, performing arts theaters, dance companies and visual arts centers.

Although the initiative is focused on southwestern states, including Texas, Louisiana, Arizona and Oklahoma, the cultural affairs office plans to branch out to cities like Chicago, St. Louis and Atlanta, as well.
